Tournament Recaps

It was another busy weekend for Newport Harbor Field Hockey! Thank you to the many many parents who helped out with the logistics of the tournaments for each team!

Newport Harbor Varsity played in the OC Varsity Invitational at Marina High School. The Sailors won their first game against Marina 3-0 with two goals by Jordan Blanchfield and one goal by Emily Conant. The semi-final game was a 1-0 victory over Bonita with the goal by Blanchfield and 4 saves by goalkeeper Cailynn Smethurst. The final game ended in a 0-0 tie after 8 saves by Smethurst and countless shots on goal, but then the Sailors lost in the first round of sudden victory strokes. Congratulations on a Second Place finish!

Newport Harbor JV and Frosh/Soph Field Hockey traveled to La Mesa to compete in the Helix High School Varsity Highlander Cup.

Newport Harbor JV placed first in their pool after three shutout wins.  In their Friday game against Eastlake, Newport won 3-0 with goals by Jessica Stone, Ali Bonds – assisted by Stone and Sammy Whitney, and Mckenzie Porteous – assisted by Rylie Siegfried. Goalkeeper Callie Kennedy recorded seven saves. In the second game against San Marcos, Newport won 2-0 with goals by Haley Martinez and Whitney, and two saves by Kennedy. In their third game, the Sailors defeated Morris 4-0 with goals by Porteous – assisted by Siegfried, Senny Fuller – assisted by Siegfried, and two goals by Siegfried. In the semi-finals against Bishop, Newport lost 0-4 with two saves by Kennedy. Go Newport!

Frosh/Soph coach Taylor Cordeiro reported that Newport Harbor Frosh/Soph gained a great amount of experience at the tournament, learned a lot at a higher level, and played extremely well as a team. Great job girls!

F/S & JV Tournaments

OC FIELD HOCKEY TOURNAMENT
This weekend (10/7) the Newport Harbor JV & Frosh/Soph Field Hockey teams are competing in the OC Field Hockey JV Tournament at Marina High School. JV will play as Newport 1 and Frosh/Soph will play as Newport 2. Click here to download the bracket. Both teams have their first game at 8:00 a.m. and must be at the field at 7:00 a.m.

HIGHLANDER CUP
The Newport Harbor JV & Frosh/Soph Field Hockey teams are also traveling to La Mesa, CA next weekend (10/11-12) to compete in the JV Highlander Cup.

The girls must bring both uniforms, both sock colors, and all equipment needed for the games. They should also bring a lunch and snacks, or money to purchase something to eat.

Both teams will meet in the parking lot at Harper School at 2:00 p.m. to depart for Helix Charter High School for their first two games on Friday night.

JV game times are at 5:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. on Friday, 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. Depending on how the team does, playoffs will be at 5:15 p.m. and 5:45 p.m. with a championship game at 6:30 p.m.

Frosh/Soph game times are at 6:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. on Friday, 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. Depending on how the team does, playoffs will be at 5:15 p.m. and 5:45 p.m. with a championship game at 6:30 p.m.

The girls will spend the night at the Holiday Inn Express La Mesa on Friday night. In the morning they will have breakfast at the hotel and then head to the high school for their games. The cost for players to stay at the hotel is covered by Boosters. If parents would like to book a room at the hotel, the reservation line is 619.466.0200.

Pool Play Game 2: Lost 0-1 against Westview.
Pool Play Game 3: Won 3-0 against El Capitan. Goals by Kaitlin Shedd, Sophie Templin and Hailey Oberst.
Pool Play Game 4: Won 2-0 against Valhalla. Goals by Katilin Shedd and Jenny Bergsma.
Semi-Final Game: Lost 0-2 against Scripps Ranch.

The girls must bring both uniforms, both sock colors, and all equipment needed for the games. They should also bring a lunch and snacks, or money to purchase something.

We will meet at the Harper School Parking Lot and depart at 6 p.m. We will stop in Oceanside for dinner then head to the Holiday Inn Express La Mesa for the night. In the morning we will have breakfast at the hotel and then head to the high school at 7 a.m.
