NH Athletic Foundation Fundraiser

The 1st Annual Newport Harbor Athletic Foundation will take place on Monday, Feb. 11 at the Santa Ana Country Club to support our Newport Harbor High School student athletes.

Get involved!  Our Athletic Foundation is selling golf balls for the Helicopter Golf Ball Drop to benefit all our individual sports teams. Field Hockey will receive 50% of the golf ball proceeds they sell and the top team on the leader board receives an additional bonus. You can click on the link below to purchase golf balls where a helicopter will drop all golf balls to see which ball lands in the hole for a $1000 bonus prize. You do not need to be present to win.

The money will be raised for our booster clubs, athletic trainers, enhanced athletic workout facilities, player safety and more so our student athletes can compete at the highest level.

A Message from Boosters

Dear Parents, Coaches, and Board Members:

Our season has started off with a bang, 9-1-1, and this week our Varsity kicks-off league play with Westminister at home on Wednesday, and away at Fountain Valley on Thursday!  These games count so please support all the teams with lots of cheers!

Our NO WASH CAR WASH was a great success – even without water!  There was a steady line of cars throughout the day and the girls did a great job (with much assistance from the coaches)!  Thank you to the Booster members, Gels, Kalatschans, Hendrixs, Dewans, Lukowskys, Blandas, Hubbards, Warmingtons, and many others who gave of their time to help organize and support this event, including food, supplies, EZ ups, setup, cleanup, etc.  This is our biggest and only true fundraiser so every dollar helps us reach our goal.

As we mentioned at the parent meeting and parent party, one of the main reasons the Field Hockey program is so amazing for our girls is that we have great support from our player families, in addition to our great coaches.  As you know, our fundraising goals for our 2014  “Finish Strong” campaign is $25,000.  To date, we are at 15% of our goal!  Your donations allow us to get extra training, state of the art equipment, additional coaching support for in-season and off-season, tournament fees, lodging and food for tournaments, team bonding events, and much more.  This year ALL players also received brand new dry-fit polo jerseys in both navy and white that the girls are most thankful for!  We would like to thank those of you who have generously donated to our campaign thus far!

You may give your donation to Nancy Vaughan made out to NHHS Field Hockey Boosters, and any amount is very much appreciated.  We are hopeful for 100% participation from our field hockey families this year!  If you would like you could also donate to the Newport Harbor Educational Foundation, in order to receive your tax deduction.  You simply indicate how much of your donation is restricted to Field Hockey.

If you have any questions or suggestions please reach out to your coaches and/or Board Members.  We look forward to a great season!

    Go Sailors!

    Pyle Donation

At a NHHS Educational Foundation gathering last Friday, David Pyle, a Newport Harbor Field Hockey parent, donated $610,000 to the Newport Harbor Educational Foundation and specifically designated the Newport Harbor Field Hockey program to receive $100,000 of the money (see the Daily Pilot article here and the NB Independent article here). Mr. Pyle acknowledged Head Coach Amanda Boyer’s leadership, specifically citing her work in developing the program and players. Amanda and the Newport Harbor Administration are extremely grateful for Mr. Pyle’s generous donation and for his commitment to enhancing the Newport Harbor Field Hockey Program.

Mr. Pyle’s wishes are for the grant to be used to ensure continuity and enhancement in the program, as well as to be leveraged for fundraising. The grant is subject to mutually agreed distribution terms between David and the leadership of Newport Harbor Field Hockey over no less than five years. This grant is intended to be a supplement, not a substitution, to fundraising and will most likely be used as a matching gift challenge each year as new avenues for growth and development are discovered. Mr. Pyle, Amanda, and the Booster Board will be meeting to establish disbursement criteria, program milestones and fundraising activity schedules in accordance with Mr. Pyle’s wishes and terms of his generous donation.

The Newport Harbor Field Hockey program owes much of its success to the many ways that the NHHS Field Hockey community shows its support. One of the goals of the Newport Harbor Field Hockey program is to continue to develop student athletes into strong citizens, who strive for victory with honor and character.  At Friday night’s presentation, Mr. Pyle quoted legendary basketball coach John Wooden, “Sports do not build character. They reveal it.”

Thank you again to David Pyle for your generous and enduring support. Go Newport!

    Workin’ at the Car Wash

This year’s Car Wash Fundraiser was a successful morning of Newport Harbor Field Hockey girls washing 1 bike, 4 dogs, the Banzai Bowl Van, and around 170 cars!

A big thank you to Nancy Rohan, Rachel Stone, and Kathy Hancock for their help with the car wash. We couldn’t have done it without your help!

    Thanks @BanzaiBowls for your support!

    Thank you Nancy Rohan!!
