Uniform Care

Newport Harbor Field Hockey players received their field hockey uniforms! Our uniforms are an iconic element of the program, having been worn by Newport Harbor Field Hockey players for decades! Please handle them with care by following the instructions below and plan to return them in excellent condition at the end of the season. The uniform distributed consists of a plaid skirt, a white home jersey, a navy away jersey and a practice jersey.

Skirt Care Instructions:

  • Do not change the length of the skirt by cutting the material or sewing the hem.  If you have an issue with skirt length, please contact your team parent.
  • You may move the buttons along the waistband to adjust the fit.  Other than this, please do not alter your skirts.
  • Machine wash on cold.
  • Hang dry (preferred) or tumble dry on low.

Polo Shirt Care Instructions:

  • Machine wash on cold.
  • Do not use fabric softener.
  • Try not to bleach.  If necessary, use non-chlorine bleach only.
  • Soak in Oxiclean before laundering to remove sweat stains.
  • Do not iron.
  • Do not dry clean.

Thanks for your help with this!  If you have any questions about uniforms, please contact newportharborfieldhockey@gmail.com.

Pedal to the Metal

In anticipation of NMUSD approval in response to the latest CA Department of Health Youth Sports Guidelines, we are on a (VERY) fast track to get a few field hockey games scheduled before the season end date. We are doing everything we can to get all of our student-athletes, especially our seniors, some game time, so please keep in mind the importance of flexibility and understanding. As soon as we have finalized game times and have more information, we will post another update, but we wanted to give tentative windows of time in order for planning purposes:

  • Friday, 2/26 – Game Day at Huntington Beach High School; window of time to reserve: 3:00 – 7:00 pm. As of today, there will be no spectators allowed on the field or in the parking lot.
  • Saturday, 2/27 – Game Day at Fountain Valley High School; window of time to reserve: 11:00 am – 3:30 pm. Spectator Information: TBD.

November Update

It has been great getting our players and coaches onto the turf! Since we cannot share equipment yet, we are spending the time on individual skills and conditioning. Everyone has done an amazing job following all of the safety restrictions and protocols at practices.

While we are still hopeful that we will have a season this year, CIF’s November 16 Update indicated that the release of updated youth sports guidance has been postponed due to the increase in COVID-19 cases. We had plans of beginning our season on December 18, but that date will likely be delayed. As soon as we get any information, we will be sure to post an update.

Thank you for your flexibility and understanding during this bizarre year. We look forward to a possible season and especially hope to have our seniors finish strong!

Back in (Some) Action!

We are SO excited to be heading back to Davidson Field on Tuesday! While we are operating under strict guidelines, it will still be so great to get together on the turf and prepare for field hockey season! We are especially excited to welcome all of our new players to begin their journey of learning about the sport of field hockey!

While we do not have dates for tryouts set yet due to the current circumstances and guidelines, we ARE preparing for season. Preseason games are still being scheduled, but we have posted the league schedule to the website. CIF has planned for our season to be from December 18 to February 27. **Please make note that we will have practices or games during winter break and president’s week.

Next week we will transition from working out virtually on Zoom to an in person “Phase 1” workout at Davidson Field. We will begin with one-hour practices twice per week on Tuesday and Thursday, and then look forward to increasing the frequency and time. New players will have practice from 3:00-4:00 pm and returning players will have practice from 4:00-5:00 pm.

In order to participate, athletes must be cleared with their Athletic Clearance paperwork and bring a signed NMUSD Athletics Reopening Parent/Guardian Notification Letter. Athletes and coaches will wear face coverings at all times and comply with social distancing of a 6 foot distance from others. Athletes must be dropped off in the parking lot because only athletes and coaches may come onto campus. Athletes will be screened daily upon arrival to the field, which will consist of a health survey and temperature check. The Athletic Parent Permission Slip includes many more details about the guidelines, phases, and expectations.

All players must bring their own water bottle for hydration. Please wear sunscreen, drink water, and eat a good breakfast and lunch. Returning players will bring their own stick and if new players do not have their own stick, we will check out a sanitized stick to them that they can use and take with them. Shin guards, goggles, and mouth guards are not needed during Phase 1 since the athletes will be working on individual skills. Our Coaching Staff and Booster Board Members are so excited to return in person and are committed to making it as safe an environment as possible.

August Update

Happy first day of school to all of our student athletes! While we wish they were on campus, walking around in uniform, and anticipating their first home game, we WILL make the best out of this situation we find ourselves in! We are excited to announce that as long as state and district guidelines allow, we will begin to meet at Davidson field on Tuesday, September 8. Only student athletes who have completed their Athletic Clearance will be permitted to participate. Below is the NMUSD Parent Permission Slip, which outlines many of the procedures and restrictions. Students will need to bring this signed on the first day of returning to play.

Our season is planned to be from December 18 to February 27. ***Please make note that we will have games during winter break and president’s week.

Late July Update

Today would’ve been our first day of our annual Summer Camp. While we are disappointed that we cannot hold camp this summer, we are still very hopeful that we will have a 2020/2021 field hockey season.

Last week, CIF announced that field hockey’s season has been postponed to run from December 18 to February 27. ***Please make note that we will have games during winter break and president’s week.

We look forward to the possibility of a season and as soon as we are given a green light to return to play, we will schedule clinics to teach the sport to new players, practices, and tryouts.

As a reminder, students must have their athletic clearance paperwork complete to participate (as they do every year) whenever we are able to return to play. Please get the athletic clearance paperwork done so that there isn’t a delay once we have the opportunity to play:

Early July Update

Although we have been busy planning and training our coaching staff on how to return to play and create a safe environment for our student-athletes, the Orange County Department of Education (OCDE) confirmed with California Department of Public Health (CDPH) that at this time youth sports, including conditioning activities, are not permitted.

We remain hopeful and optimistic that we will have a field hockey season this year. Once statewide guidance is released, our district will work with the Orange County Health Care Agency to consider local community conditions when implementing our reopening plan for athletics.

We will update you as soon as we have new information. As we wait, we will continue to prepare for the re-opening of athletics so that we can be ready to play field hockey again as soon as possible.

As a reminder, students must have their athletic clearance paperwork complete to participate (as they do every year) whenever we are able to return to play. Please get the athletic clearance paperwork done right away so that there isn’t a delay once we have the opportunity to play:
