Newport Harbor Field Hockey had a successful car wash on Saturday! The girls washed a lot of cars and even a few dogs. Thanks to all who helped out, and especially Nancy Rohan, John & Carol Nulty, Jen Blanchfield and Rachel Stone!

NEWPORT BEACH — The host Sailors opened Sunset League play with a commanding win behind two goals from junior Alex Palmer. Senior Jill Messersmith also scored for the winners, who visit Edison on Friday.

Newport Harbor Junior Varsity Field Hockey also beat Westminster 3-0 with two goals by Riley Flannagan and one goal by Alexa Luckow. Go Newport!

– One week until the Car Wash Fundraiser on Saturday, September 29 at 8:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. Each player is responsible for pre-selling ten tickets at $10 per ticket and for bringing four towels/rags for drying. Money is due to coaches by this Thursday, September 27 for Varsity & JV and by this Friday, September 28 for Frosh/Soph.

Newport Harbor Frosh/Soph Field Hockey traveled to Harvard Westlake on Friday and played a tough game on the turf field. The Sailors lost 1-4, with a goal scored by Nicole Newman. Frosh/Soph travels to Huntington Beach on Wednesday. Go Newport!

Newport Harbor Varsity Field Hockey traveled to Moorpark College to play their last pre-league game against Louisville. After a hot game on the turf field, the Sailors ended with a 4-1 victory. Three goals were scored by Taury Hlinka, with assists by Jill Messersmith and Kirsten Rohan. The fourth goal was scored by Kari Hancock assisted by Kaitlin Shedd and Jordan Blanchfield. Goalkeeper Cailynn Smethurst had five saves. Newport begins league play on Monday at home against Westminster. Go Newport!

Newport Harbor Varsity Field Hockey ended their second league match in a 1-1 tie after finishing scoreless in ten minutes of sudden victory overtime. The only goal was scored by senior captain Kirsten Rohan off a cross by senior Taury Hlinka. Coach Amanda Boyer added that Cailynn Smethurst, Hannah Vigil, and Taury Hlinka were standouts in Friday’s game. Newport Harbor hosts Marina HS on Tuesday. 
Newport Harbor JV Field Hockey fell 0-1 to Edison.
Newport Harbor Frosh Soph Field Hockey was on the road Wednesday and Thursday and had tough matches against Bonita, 1-2, and Huntington Beach, 0-2.
