Off Season Field Hockey

Off Season Field Hockey will begin next Monday, December 3 from 3 – 5 p.m. on the grass by the softball field. Consistent attendance will count towards the PE credit. Upperclassmen who wish to receive PE credit for Field Hockey on their transcripts must finish out the off season through the end of the semester. Off Season will held on Mondays and Wednesdays. We will not have practices during the winter recess. For Off Season we ask for a contribution of $75 per player for Dec – June to cover costs. The players who are involved with other sports can join off season in May, we ask for a contribution of $25. Please email Coach Amanda Boyer if you have any questions.

Banquet Tonight!

Just a reminder that the Banquet is tonight! See you at 6:00 p.m. at St. Andrew’s in the Student Center. We look forward to celebrating all that the girls accomplished this season!

Frosh/Soph – 1-2 dozen bite size desserts

Mulligan Travel Team Tryouts

Mulligan Academy Divots competitive travel field hockey team tryouts are Saturday, October 27 at Edison High School from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. The tryouts are open for the 2012-13 tournament season, U14 and U16 squads, and also new for this season, a second U19 squad.

**Please note the U19 Festival team selection is completed and these teams will not attend the National Festival**
Mulligan’s mission is to provide athletes who have ability, desire and commitment to play at the highest competitive level. Our teaching method is aligned with USA Field Hockey junior development strategy improving all athletes’ technical and tactical ability. PROGRAM WIDE
– The NH Field Hockey logo car decals are available in the bin for $1.
– Make sure to be taking lots of pictures and submitting them to your team photograph collectors for the team videos at the banquet.
– It’s ‘Play for the Cure’ week in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. All three teams will be playing their home games for the cure.

VARSITY
Monday – Practice at 3:00 – 5:00 p.m. and Team Dinner at the Rohan Home.
Tuesday – Home Game vs. Edison at 3:15 p.m. ‘Play for the Cure’! Be at the field at 2:00 p.m. Fans, wear pink for the Play for the Cure!

Tournament Recaps

It was a busy Saturday for Newport Harbor Field Hockey!

Newport Harbor Varsity Field Hockey defeated Fountain Valley, Bonita, and Edison to win first place in the OC Field Hockey Invitational on Saturday. Goalkeeper Cailynn Smethurst earned shutouts in all three games. Congratulations to All Tournament Team Honorees: Jane Layton, Jill Messersmith, and Alex Plamer, and the Tournament Co-MVP, Sydney Dexter!

Newport Harbor JV and Frosh/Soph Field Hockey traveled to La Mesa, CA to compete in the JV Helix Highlander Cup. Junior Varsity and Frosh/Soph tied for first in their pool and their seeding was determined by the flip of a coin, which went to JV. Frosh/Soph earned third place and JV earned second place in the tournament. Great work girls! Go Newport!

Game Recap

Newport Harbor Varsity Field Hockey hosted Fountain Valley and fell 0-1.

Newport Harbor JV Field Hockey beat the Barons 4-0 with two goals by Elizabeth Muenchow, and one goal each by Julia Frei and Riley Flanagan. Go Newport!

Newport Harbor Frosh/Soph Field Hockey traveled to Chaminade and tied 1-1 with the goal scored by Ali Bonds.

Varsity Tournament Info

The Varsity team will be participating in the OC Varsity Field Hockey Invitational at Marina High School this weekend. Their game times are at 9:00 a.m. and 10:30 a.m., and then depending on their outcomes, a game at 1:30 p.m. or 2:30 p.m. Players are to be at the field at 8:00 a.m.

– One week until the Car Wash Fundraiser on Saturday, September 29 at 8:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. Each player is responsible for pre-selling ten tickets at $10 per ticket and for bringing four towels/rags for drying. Money is due to coaches by this Thursday, September 27 for Varsity & JV and by this Friday, September 28 for Frosh/Soph.
– Backpacks have been shipped and are on their way!

VARSITY
Monday – First League Game! Home Game vs. Westminster at 3:30 p.m. at Davidson Field. Be at the field at 2:15 p.m. ready to set up the field and warm up.
Tuesday – Practice at 3:00 – 5:00 p.m.
Wednesday – Practice at 3:00 – 5:00 p.m.
Thursday – Practice at 3:00 – 5:00 p.m. Team Dinner at the Gels Home. Car Wash Money Due!
