Amanda Boyer was named Varsity Coach for Newport Harbor Field Hockey last week. Amanda has been involved in the Newport Harbor Field Hockey program both as a coach and a player. She has coached the Junior Varsity team for the past 3 years and was a 4-year Varsity Goalie during her high school career. Newport Harbor High blanked three opponents to reach the title game, but fell, 1-0, to Huntington Beach in the final to finish second Saturday at Marina High. The Sailors defeated Bonita, 1-0, Fountain Valley, 2-0, and Westminster, 5-0, to reach the final. Claire Layton, Lauren Chandler and Brooke Nelson had two goals a piece, while Lauren Grupe and Mary Yeager also had goals for the Sailors. Senior Zoie Wolfe, who sparkled on defense for the Tars was named tourney Co-MVP. Layton, Grupe and Lauren Rojas, all seniors, made the all-tournament team.
