High School Roundup: Newport Harbor shuts out Marina

Newport Harbor 4, Marina 0

NEWPORT BEACH — Team captain Jordan Blanchfield scored two goals to help lead the Sailors to the Sunset League-opening win Tuesday.

Daniela Vazquez and Elizabeth Muenchow also scored, while Emily Conant and Alexa Luckow provided an assist each for Newport Harbor.

Goalkeeper Erika Nilsson made four saves for the Sailors, who play at Fountain Valley on Thursday.

Newport Harbor JV Field Hockey also shut out the Vikings on Tuesday with a 6-0 win. The first goal scored by Alex Vasquez with a great shot from Sammy Whitney to Mackenzie Porteous for the assist. The second goal was scored by Porteous with an assist by Vasquez. Jessica Stone and Rylie Siegfried each scored as well to end the first half with a 4-0 lead. In the second half, the final two goals were scored by Vasquez and Whitney. Go Newport!

King – Go Cardinals!

Newport Harbor Field Hockey Alum Sydney King, who plays goalkeeper in Division 1 Field Hockey for University of Louisville, was added to the ‘Big East’ Honor Roll for her play this past week where she posted a 1.49 goals against average with 12 saves in a 3-2 overtime win over No. 20 Old Dominion and a 2-1 victory against Northeastern. Syd, great job and best of luck in the rest of your season!

Tuesday – First League Game! Home Game vs. Marina at 3:15 p.m. at Davidson Field. Be at the field at 2:00 p.m. ready to set up the field and warm up.
Wednesday – Practice at 3:00 – 5:00 p.m.
Thursday – Away game at Fountain Valley High School at 3:15 p.m. Bus departs at 1:45 p.m.
Friday – Practice at 3:00 – 5:00 p.m.

JUNIOR VARSITY
Monday – Practice at 3:00 – 5:00 p.m. Team Dinner hosted by the Singer and Kennedy families.

NHFH Gear

On Friday after practice we will be selling merchandise from past season for a discounted price. Sweatshirts will be $10, t-shirts and sweatpants will be $5. The remaining gear will be sold at the Car Wash on Saturday.

Many parents have been asking about t-shirts and hats. We have new parent t-shirts for $15 that will be available at the Car Wash and the Tuesday home game.

– Car Wash Fundraiser is this weekend! Saturday, September 21 at 8:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. Fundraising is due by Friday, September 20.
– Backpacks have been shipped! We are just waiting for them to arrive.
– Finish Strong Campaign: Some parents had asked to have the option to donate electronically – thanks to Booster Treasurer Sara Muenchow for setting up a pay pal account! You can now click the ‘Donate’ button on the right side of the website.

Tuesday –  Home Game vs. Chaminade at 3:15 p.m. at Davidson Field. Be at the field at 2:00 p.m. ready to set up the field and warm up.
Wednesday – Practice at 3 – 5 p.m.
Thursday – Away game at Harvard Westlake at 3:15 p.m. Release time is 12:50, bus departs at 12:55.
Friday – Practice at 3 – 5 p.m.
Saturday – Car Wash. Players will be there from 8:10 a.m. – 12:45 p.m. Each player must bring 4 towels for drying.

Thursday – Away game at Harvard Westlake at 4:30 p.m. Release time is 12:50, bus departs at 12:55.
Friday – Practice at 3 – 5 p.m.
