Opportunities for Practice

Huntington Beach High School’s new turf field has been completed and they are opening it up for the entire league to offer two different opportunities to practice:

  • Open Summer Sessions – This has already started, but any player can attend on a Tuesday evening through July 17. Each session is $10 for an hour and a half of game play. Click here for registration and more information.
  • HBHS Open Tournament – The Sunset League is holding a training for our umpires and then a tournament for them to practice at HBHS. We are encouraging players to register as an individual for this tournament to get practice with other players, as well as to help the effort for training umpires. The tournament is on Saturday, July 21 – the weekend before tryouts – from 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. Click here for more registration and more information. Registration is due by July 6.

These are great opportunities to gain more experience and play field hockey from other players in our league. We highly recommend participation!

A Message from the President

Welcome NHHS Girls Field Hockey Parents and Boosters,

It is that time again! Spring training begins on Monday.  How quickly the 2012 Girls’ Field Hockey Season will be upon us.  Very exciting activities moving into the new season.  As the new Booster President,  I have some large shoes to fill with the legendary former Booster President, Jeff Chandler’s retirement.

For those Parents and Daughters who will be joining the Field Hockey family for the first time, you are in store for much fun and excitement.  For those veterans who will be returning, we look forward to another successful and memorable season.  All of our outstanding coaches will be back with us this year,  so we look forward to “Finishing Strong” in 2012.

It is through your generosity of time and contributions that helps us keep the Girls Field Hockey program as one of the premier sports activities at Newport Harbor High.  Please check the ‘Parents’ section of the website for different ways that you can volunteer or contribute, and to see some important dates to already be saving for the fall.

Jim Palmer has graciously joined the Board to handle all Field Operations.  If anyone is interested in helping with the fields during the season, please let me know.

Lastly, two of our key Board members will be retiring this year after multiple years of service.  We are indebted to their service and contributions.

Both Kathy Hancock, who has served as our Secretary, and Nancy Rohan as the Treasurer for the past 2 years, have done an incredible job as valuable Board Members.  If you are interested in joining the Girls Field Hockey Board as Secretary or Treasurer, please let us know.  We will arrange to have you shadow them during the season to ensure a smooth transition.  The heavy lifting has already been done because both of these ladies are incredibly organized and experienced.

That is it for now.  More to come as the season approaches.  We look forward to your participation and a fantastic experience for your daughters.  If you have any questions or suggestions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Sincerely,

John Nulty
Booster President
