A Message from our Booster President

On behalf of the Newport Harbor Field Hockey Boosters, I would like to welcome everyone to the 2016 hockey season. The FH Board and Head Coach Amanda Boyer have been meeting and planning over the off-season to make this year another memorable one for the girls. We have kept many of the Harbor traditions in place while trying to improve the program for our daughters.

In anticipation of our new field next year we will just “go with the flow” this year having our home games tentatively set to be played at Miller Field in Huntington Beach. You will find this year’s schedule on the website under “Schedule And Scores”. All three teams will be participating at the Helix Highlander Cup tournament in La Mesa with the Varsity returning from last year’s five-shutout Championship run!

We are proud to announce that Courtney McIntosh and Sophie Evans will be the new Frosh/Soph coaches, and Madeline Storch is our JV coach. All three are NHHS alumni and bring with them a tradition of excellence. This will be Judy Schaefer’s ninth season as assistant coach for Varsity. As many of you know, Amanda Boyer, our head coach, had an addition to her family with the birth of her daughter Hadley on June 17th. Amanda and her husband Jason are now having to play “zone” with Jayden, Wells and Hadley. This will be Amanda’s tenth season with the program.

Key dates to note are:

  • Parents Meeting – 7 p.m. Wednesday, August 24th in the NHHS Social Hall.
  • “Ding Dong Dollars” door-to-door campaign – Saturday, August 27th, 9 am – 12:30 pm
  • Parents Party – Sunday, September 11th, 5:30 – 7:30, at the Robinson residence.

Your support and participation in these events is what helps the program remain so successful. We always need volunteers for various roles in these and other events — team dinners, game days, etc. — so whatever time you can donate to assist and support the team and program is much needed and greatly appreciated.

Each season presents various challenges, but one that is always present is generating enough funds for the program, so we can continue the high level of excellence from the coaching in the summer and fall to the team building events, tournament participation, plus the annual expenses for equipment and uniform upgrades. This means that the funds you donate as parents help the program to meet its financial goals and help take the program to another level of excellence.

We are holding only two fund raisers this season. One is our new “Ding Dong Dollars” door-to-door event, and the other is our “Finish Strong” campaign. Please contact us if you are interested in joining our campaign and/or making a donation. More information on both programs will be provided at the Parent Meeting.

I want to thank the NHFH Board for their efforts heading into this season. Raylene Groves is our new treasurer with Nancy Vaughan’s retirement. Raylene has our financials so organized that she makes all of our jobs easy, and provides an incredible reconciliation of our budget and balance sheet keeping us all on track. Buffi Hendrix continues to be an incredible asset as our secretary, and her energy, knowledge, and commitment to the program is astounding. The newest member to our Board this year is Barbara Lucore, who is heading up the newly appointed position as VP of Volunteers.  It takes a tremendous effort to make sure our volunteer chairs are given the attention and resources they need to achieve their responsibility and goals, I am sure Barbara would appreciate any parents who can volunteer their time and assistance to our program.

As this year’s Board President, I look forward to continuing the excellence of this program. Our girls truly take pride in continuing the traditions of one of the most successful programs at NHHS.  We will continue to try to live up to the excellence of this program so we can continue to Finish Strong.  The girls and coaching staff work very hard, have tremendous passion for the sport, and have a lot of fun.  The rewards and memories for our daughters are something they will carry with them for a lifetime.  This is evident by the incredible participation and enthusiasm generated by our annual Alumni game.  I am honored and feel privileged to be able to continue to support this program and our daughter’s memories.

Lastly, I want to thank all of you parents who give so generously of your time, support, and financial contributions.  The continued excellence of this program starts with your generosity and commitment to your daughters and the program’s success. Please feel free to contact any of us with questions about whom, what, where and why details about the program for the upcoming season. Our contact information, like a lot of other great info, is on the NHFH website.

We look forward to another great season……Go Newport!

2016/2017 Teams Posted

The 2016/2017 Newport Harbor Field Hockey Teams have been posted to the Teams Page.

“Thank you to all who participated in the summer camp and tryouts. The Newport Harbor Field Hockey program is very competitive and this was the largest turnout our program has had in recent years. The coaching staff had to make some very difficult decisions as we considered each athlete’s skill, speed, stamina, strength, progression, coach-ability, work ethic, attitude, and 4-year potential. While we look forward to the upcoming season, we regret having to cut any player, or keep any player from advancing to another team, and recognize the dedication and commitment that she has shown by participating in the summer camp and tryouts. We hope that this disappointment does not stop athletes from pursuing the many other activities and programs offered at Newport Harbor High School. We also invite those who did not get placed onto a team to tryout next year. If you have any questions or would like an assessment of current strengths and areas for improvement, please feel free to contact me at amandamboyer@gmail.com. Thank you again for your participation and understanding.” – Amanda Boyer
