Game Recap

Newport Harbor Varsity Field Hockey (6-0-1) shutout Glendora High School with a 3-0 win. The first goal came in the fifth minute of play on a penalty corner by Noelle Hubbard, assisted by Jordan Blanchfield. The second goal was scored off another corner four minutes into the second half by Mollie Crook, assisted by Mia Bagiu. The final goal was scored by Jordan Blanchfield off a pass by Haley Martinez. Goalkeeper Erika Nilsson had one save to defend a breakaway situation.

Newport Harbor Junior Varsity Field Hockey shutout the Tartans 6-0. McKenzie Porteous had two goals with assists by Emily Lukosky and Lexi Wills. Kendal Machado scored two goals for Newport with an assist by Porteous. Lukosky and Annie O’Connor also each scored a goal. Go Newport!

Newport Harbor Varsity Field Hockey traveled to Chaminade High School and had a 3-1 victory. Caroline Gels scored the first goal off on assist from Jordan Blanchfield in the first two minutes of play. Blanchfield scored the second goal with an assist by Mia Bagiu. The third goal came from Haley Martinez off a rebound. Goalkeeper Sarah Sheldon had five saves in the second half.

Newport Harbor JV Field Hockey also defeated Chaminade High School 3-1. The first goal was scored on a penalty corner by Emily Lukosky with an assist by McKenzie Porteous. The second goal was scored by Trudy Padden, assisted by Lukosky. The final goal was scored by Porteous with the assist by Padden. Goalkeeper Callie Kennedy had four saves.

Newport Harbor Frosh/Soph played host to Edison High School and the game ended in a 1-1 tie. Goalkeeper Rachel DelValle had six saves. The only goal was scored by Sophia Mendoza. Go Newport!

– The ‘No Wash Car Wash’ Fundraiser is Saturday, September 20 at 8:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. Fundraising is to be turned in to your coach by Friday, September 19.
– GEAR: we will be handing out order forms for sweats/shirts/etc. this week. For those who ordered backpacks, they should be arriving soon.

Wednesday – Home game at Davidson Field at 3:15 vs. Glendora. Players are to be at the field at 2:10 p.m., wearing white uniforms and white socks, ready to set up the field and warm up.
Thursday – Practice at 2:30 – 5 p.m.

Game Recap

Newport Harbor Varsity Field Hockey played in the first round of pool play at the Otay Ranch Tournament in Chula Vista on Saturday.

In the first game, Newport Harbor beat University City 6-0. Goals were scored by Caroline Gels with an assist by Jordan Blanchfield, two goals by Blanchfield with an assist by Daniela Vazquez, Sophie Schwarzenbach, and two by Cameron Dewan with an assist by Allana Rockwell.

In the second game, Newport Harbor faced Mt. Carmel and won 2-0 with goals by Noelle Hubbard and Blanchfield. Great defensive play by Kristin Watanabe, Peyton Groves, Shea Horvath, Jaclyn Manderson, Kim Comet, Jackie Singer, and goalkeeper Erika Nilsson.

In the third game, Newport Harbor clinched a 1-0 win against Bonita Vista in the final thirty seconds of the game. The goal was scored by Blanchfield with the assist from Schwarzenbach.

Newport placed first in their pool and returns to Chula Vista next Saturday to continue on in the tournament. Go Newport!

Newport Harbor’s Girls Field Hockey Varsity traveled to Bonita on Thursday and ended in a 1-1 tie. The lone goal was scored by Jordan Blanchfield on a cross from Allana Rockwell in the first six minutes of play. Goalkeeper Erika Nilsson had two saves.

Newport Harbor Junior Varsity shutout Bonita with a 2-0 win. Goals scored by captains Georgia Yokoyama and McKenzie Porteous.

Newport Harbor Frosh/Soph beat Bonita 3-0. Goals scored by Sophia Mendoza, Sam Kerrigan, and Tristen Warmington. Coach Taylor Cordeiro noted exceptional play by Tristen Warmington and Rylee Warmington.

The Newport Harbor High Varsity field hockey team opened their season with a 2-1 win against Harvard Westlake Tuesday at Davidson field.

Senior captain Caroline Gels scored the first goal seventeen minutes into the first half. Senior captain Jordan Blanchfield scored the second goal in the seventh minute of the second half. Senior goalkeeper Erika Nilsson had four saves.

Newport Harbor Junior Varsity shut out Harvard Westlake with a 4-0 win. Sophomore Georgia Yokoyama had a ‘hat trick’ with three goals and junior Emily Lukosky added another goal to secure the win.

Newport Harbor Frosh/Soph traveled to Marina High School and won 2-0 with the first goal scored by Sophia Mendoza, assisted by Tristen Warmington, and the second goal scored by Tristen Warmington, assisted by Leah Pallares.
