USA Field Hockey: Futures

If any player is interested in participating in the USA Futures Program, they must email us at newportharborfieldhockey@gmail.com. We have had Newport Harbor Field Hockey players participate in the past and they have had positive experiences. Futures is a really great environment for a player to reach new levels in their field hockey skill and experience.

About the Futures Program

The Futures program is the Olympic Development division of the United States Field Hockey Association. The purpose of the Futures Program is to raise the level of field hockey throughout the United States.

The Futures program consists of 27 hours of training from January through May that culminates in participation at the Regional Futures Tournament in May or June.  From the Regional Futures Tournament, Futures athletes have the opportunity to advance to higher levels of play through selection to elite teams at the National Futures Championship. Futures participants meet on scheduled off-season weekend dates at Huntington Beach High School or Moorpark College to receive coaching and skill development techniques. All coaches on staff are accredited USA Field Hockey coaches through their coaching education program.

Order Spirit Gear

Click Here to download the order form for Newport Harbor Field Hockey Spirit Gear.

This is completely optional and it is not a fundraiser – the Boosters do not make any profit, the cost is as low as possible for the girls and families (parents, you can order things too!).

The deadline for turning the form is Monday at practice because we want to get everything ordered as soon as possible for the girls (although, there has been absolutely no need for sweats quite yet with this weather!).

Game Recap

Newport Harbor Varsity Field Hockey (9-1-1) travelled to Moorpark College to play their final pre-season game against Louisville High School. The Sailors shoutout the Royals 8-0. Jordan Blanchfield had four goals with assists by Emily Vaughan, Daniela Vazquez, and Noelle Hubbard. Caroline Gels had two goals with assists by Cameron Dewan and Mollie Crook. Dewan scored a goal with an assist from Vazquez, and Vaughan scored a goal with an assist by Hailey Martinez. The Sailors open league with a home game against Westminster on Wednesday.

Otay Ranch: 2nd Place

Newport Harbor Varsity Field Hockey (8-1-1) traveled to Chula Vista for the second weekend of the Otay Ranch Field Hockey Tournament. The Sailors beat Mt. Carmel 3-0 in the quarter-final game. The first goal came from a penalty stroke taken by Jordan Blanchfield. Emily Vaughan then had a hard cross to Blanchfield to secure the lead with a second goal. The third goal was off a penalty corner hit in by Blanchfield and scored by Vaughan.

Newport beat Cathedral Catholic 3-0 with goals by Caroline Gels assisted by Blanchfield, and two more goals by Blanchfield. Goalkeeper Erika Nilsson had one diving save.

Newport fell 0-3 to San Pasqual in the championship game. Nilsson was busy defending the cage with 18 saves. Coach Amanda Boyer noted excellent defensive play by Peyton Groves, Mia Bagiu, Kim Comet, and Jackie Singer.

A big thank you to Katie Hendrix and Georgia Yokoyama for helping the Varsity team out! And one more shoutout to all of the family and friends who made the long (hot!) trek down south to show your support!
