Game Recap

Newport Harbor Frosh/Soph Field Hockey hosted Harvard Westlake at Harper Field for their only home game of the season. The team also dedicated this game to Play for the Cure. Both teams played hard and ended in a 0-0 tie after a full regulation game as well as a 10 minute, 7 v 7 overtime period. Go Newport!

Newport Harbor 3, Marina 0

HUNTINGTON BEACH — Jill Messersmith, Kirsten Rohan and Sydney Dexter all scored for the Sailors in the Sunset League game Thursday.

Newport Harbor is 12-4-3, 4-3-1 in league.

Newport Harbor JV Field Hockey defeated the Vikings 5-1 with goals by Alex Vasquez, Elizabeth Muenchow, Riley Flanagan, and two by Noelle Hubbard. Go Newport!

Homecoming Rally

Newport Harbor Field Hockey was representing in many different aspects of the “Bring Home the Gold” Rally on Tuesday! We had a host, spice girls, dancers, senior Homecoming Princess Alex Salai, and of course, the field hockey dance – a long time tradition at the NHHS Homecoming Rally.

Mulligan Travel Team Tryouts

Mulligan Academy Divots competitive travel field hockey team tryouts are Saturday, October 27 at Edison High School from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. The tryouts are open for the 2012-13 tournament season, U14 and U16 squads, and also new for this season, a second U19 squad.

Game Recap

Newport Harbor Varsity Field Hockey hosted Edison on Tuesday and fell 0-1 in sudden victory overtime. Coach Amanda Boyer noted that the team fought hard and played extremely well. “It was a tough loss, but the girls should be proud of how they played as a team.”

Newport Harbor JV Field Hockey beat the Chargers 1-0 with a goal by Alexa Luckow. Go Newport!

The Sailors travel to Marina on Thursday.

– Make sure to be taking lots of pictures and submitting them to your team photograph collectors for the team videos at the banquet.
– It’s ‘Play for the Cure’ week in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. All three teams will be playing their home games for the cure.

Tournament Recaps

It was a busy Saturday for Newport Harbor Field Hockey!

Newport Harbor Varsity Field Hockey defeated Fountain Valley, Bonita, and Edison to win first place in the OC Field Hockey Invitational on Saturday. Goalkeeper Cailynn Smethurst earned shutouts in all three games. Congratulations to All Tournament Team Honorees: Jane Layton, Jill Messersmith, and Alex Plamer, and the Tournament Co-MVP, Sydney Dexter!

Newport Harbor JV and Frosh/Soph Field Hockey traveled to La Mesa, CA to compete in the JV Helix Highlander Cup. Junior Varsity and Frosh/Soph tied for first in their pool and their seeding was determined by the flip of a coin, which went to JV. Frosh/Soph earned third place and JV earned second place in the tournament. Great work girls! Go Newport!
