It’s Raining, It’s Pouring

Varsity & JV practices are canceled due to rain (and thunder and lightning). The girls will get together at their Team Dinner at the Barnard and Hancock homes. Tomorrow’s games will depend on the amount of rain we get tonight and tomorrow – we’ll keep you posted!

Good luck to Frosh/Soph as they travel to Moorpark to play Harvard Westlake on turf!

Highlander Champs

Sailors Win San Diego Highlander Tournament!

Junior Ally Pantoskey scored the go-ahead goal and senior Stephnaie Storch scored twice as Newport Harbor defeated San Diego Westview High School Saturday, 3-1, to win the Highlander Tournament at Helix High in La Mesa.  The Sailors won four games Friday and Saturday to reach the final, including a defeat of Mission Hills, 1-0, in the semifinal game.

The Sailors scored 20 goals and gave up none leading to the final. But Westview scored first in the final, on a penalty stroke midway through the first half. The Sailors responded with three goals in the second half to secure the win. Senior Sydney King sparkled in goal for the Sailors (16-2, 3-1 in league), with eight saves in the final. This is the Sailors’ second consecutive Highlander Tournament Championship.

Homecoming Rally

On Thursday the Varsity Field Hockey team kept the Homecoming Rally Dance tradition alive! They did an outstanding job performing at both Homecoming Rallies to ‘Blame it on the Pop’. Not only was Newport Harbor Field Hockey in the dance, but there were players all over the rally. Various players who are also involved with ASB were scattered throughout the ‘Grease’ themed rally – ASB President and Varsity player Mary Yeager was Sandy! And our own Sydney Dexter was crowned Sophomore princess! Great job girls!
