Ch-Ch-Ch-Changes

Chaminade High School called the Newport Harbor Athletic Office this morning to cancel today’s JV & Varsity games. We apologize for any inconveniences and hope that everyone understands that we are trying to have everything as planned out and organized as possible each week, but we cannot control everything (something Coach Amanda Boyer feels is preparing her for parenthood).

Frosh/Soph, JV, and Varsity will have normal practice times today.

Varsity: Saturday

Newport Harbor Varsity Field Hockey plays in the second round of the Otay Ranch Field Hockey Tournament on Saturday.

The team will depart for Chula Vista on Friday at 2 p.m. and will be staying at the Best Western Plus in Chula Vista. The first game is at 8 a.m. against Canyon Crest on Saturday. The rest of the day will depend on the result of the first quarter-final game. To download the bracket, click here.

If there are any parents who are willing to help drive down on Friday afternoon, please contact Coach Amanda Boyer as soon as possible.

Stix Weekly Changes

There have been schedule changes for our Tuesday games that were made this morning. Chaminade could not host the JV & Varsity games, so must host them at Harper Field (Davidson Field was not an option since we do not have a permit for tomorrow), which means that the Frosh/Soph game must be cancelled. We apologize for any inconveniences and are disappointed that the Frosh/Soph game had to be cancelled.

Game Recap

It was a busy Saturday for Newport Harbor Field Hockey!

Newport Harbor Varsity played in the Otay Ranch Field Hockey Tournament in Chula Vista, CA. Their first game against Canyon Crest ended in a 0-0 tie. In their second game they faced San Pasqual and lost 0-1. Newport’s last game of the day, the third on turf, they beat Otay Ranch 4-0 with three goals by senior captain Allie Pantoskey and another by junior Taury Hlinka. The team placed second in their pool and will travel to Chula Vista on Saturday for the quarterfinals. Thank you to all of the parents who drove down to Chula Vista support the team (especially those at 5:00 am)!

Newport Harbor JV & F/S played in the Allied Sports Day at Westminster High School. After a morning in the gymnasium to avoid the lightning storm, both teams had a great day of play. Both teams played four, twenty-five minute games, and had some good competition.

Club Tryouts

Mulligan Field Hockey Academy trials for the Divots U19 and U16 tournament teams will be held on Saturday, September 17, 2011, 7:00 a.m. – 9:30 a.m. at Edison High School on the turf field.

The club’s purpose is to give athletes a chance to play additional competitive field hockey and provide a platform for players interested in playing collegiate field hockey through elite training and exposure to coaches at showcase tournaments. Their goal is to play in one tournament per month while training a few days a week. The U19 tournament season opener is the prestigious USA Field Hockey hosted National Field Hockey Festival. It is the largest amateur field hockey tournament in the world, drawing over 3,500 players. This showcase tournament attracts more than 250 college coaches. Adding to the buzz and excitement of this tournament is the chance to watch many men and women USA national team member play in adult divisions.

Mulligan will also offer clinics for those who do not wish to travel to tournaments, but are interested in gaining more experience and coaching in the off-season.

Newport Harbor Field Hockey strongly recommends that players who are interested in improving their field hockey skills, be a part of this program. Not to mention, most of our alumni players who continued their field hockey careers into college played for Mulligan. It is a great experience and a guaranteed way to improve your hockey.
