Game Recap

Newport Harbor Varsity Field Hockey had a tough, hot day at Harvard Westlake on Thursday. The first non-league game of the season ended in a 1-4 loss. “It was a game that the team can learn from,” said Head Coach Amanda Boyer, “and they were able to gain more experience in playing on turf.” Senior goalkeeper Andie Ward had nine saves in the goal, while senior defenders Nicole Zielinski and Kellie Conant had very strong games. Newport’s only goal was scored by senior midfielder Emily Mitchell. The Newport Harbor Junior Varsity team battled it out with Harvard Westlake and ended in a 0-0 tie. Sophomore goalkeeper Cailynn Smethurst and junior captain Maryn Call were key players for the defense. The Sailors are on the road again on Tuesday to face Chaminade.
