Game Recap

The Newport Harbor High School Girls Varsity Field Hockey team started their season on Tuesday with a 1-0 victory over Bonita High School. With impressive defensive skills by Jackie Singer and Nicole Newman and great ball handling skills by midfielders Peyton Groves and Haley Martinez, the Sailors took the lead with a long pass from Cameron Dewan to Mckenzie Porteous for the only goal of the game. Goalkeeper Callie Kennedy had two saves in the second half.

The Newport Harbor High School Girls JV Field Hockey team was down 0-1 with an early goal by Bonita, but answered back with a second-half goal scored by Kate Davison. The game ended in a 1-1 tie. Goalkeeper Payton Steiner had 5 saves.

The Newport Harbor High School Girls Frosh/Soph Field Hockey team fell to Bonita with a 0-1 loss. The Sailors controlled most of the game with excellent passing and teamwork. They also had strong defensive play by Maddie Vargas, Grace O’Neil, and Elise Skytte, only allowing the ball past the defensive 25-yard line twice. Chanse Hill was noted as a stand out player with her hard work and determination.
