{"id":1546,"date":"2011-04-18T05:00:21","date_gmt":"2011-04-18T12:00:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/newportharborfieldhockey.com\/?p=1546"},"modified":"2011-04-18T10:35:25","modified_gmt":"2011-04-18T17:35:25","slug":"new-rule-protective-eyewear","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/newportharborfieldhockey.com\/?p=1546","title":{"rendered":"New 2011-2012 Rule: Protective Eyewear"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The National Federation of State High School Associations Board of Directors voted to mandate the use of protective eyewear for all 64,000 high school field hockey athletes in the US, effective this fall.<\/p>\n<div>\u201cWhile serious eye injuries in field hockey are rare, the NFHS Board of Directors has concluded that an eyewear requirement is the right step,\u201d said Elliot Hopkins, NFHS director of educational services and field hockey rules editor.<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>The goggles that meet the current American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) standard for field hockey are the same that the lacrosse program currently uses at Newport Harbor High School. All <em>returning<\/em> players must have a pair of goggles at pre-season in August. We will have sample goggles for players to try-on at Spring Training in May, as well as information on where to purchase the goggles.
