Oilers fall to Sailors in CIF final
\nNov. 22, 2010<\/strong><\/p>\n

Taylor Cordeiro and Sophie Evans each scored goals to lead the Newport Harbor girls field hockey team to a 2-0 win over Huntington Beach to win its third consecutive Los Angeles Field Hockey Association Tournament of Champions title, Nov. 4, at Huntington beach High’s Sheue Field.<\/p>\n

The victory marked the third consecutive season the Sailors have defeated the Oilers in the TOC final. Newport won after a penalty-stroke shootout in 2008, and last year the Tars scored a 1-0 victory in the final.<\/p>\n

Cordeiro scored in the first half off an assist from sophomore Jane Layton at the 14:57 mark. Evans netted the insurance goal in the second half on an assist from Beth Bernard.<\/p>\n

The Sailors, who shared the Sunset League title this season with the Oilers, outshot Huntington Beach, 9-4. Newport Harbor goalie Sydney King had nine saves, while Oi9lers goalie Brittney Cristini had three.<\/p>\n
