Summer Camp & Tryouts Come to an End

“Thank you to all who participated in our summer camp and tryouts. This year marked the largest number of new and returning players in the program’s history, therefore the selection process was very difficult as there are only a limited number of spots between the three teams. The coaching staff and I had to make some tough decisions as we considered each athlete’s skill, speed, stamina, strength, progression, coach-ability, work ethic, attitude, and potential. While we look forward to the 2010-2011 season, we regret having to cut any player and recognize the dedication and commitment that she has shown by participating in the summer camp. We hope that this disappointment does not stop athletes from pursuing the many other activities and programs offered at Newport Harbor.

We also invite those who did not get placed onto a team to tryout next year. If anyone has any questions or would like an assessment of current strengths and areas for improvement, please feel free to contact me at amandamboyer@gmail.com.

Thank you again for your participation and understanding,

Amanda Boyer”

Summer Camp Starts Monday!

Summer Camp begins this Monday, July 5. Be sure to bring plenty of water along with shin guards and a mouth guard. Look forward to seeing you all out on the field!

Reminder: All student-athletes must have a clearance packet on file in the Athletic Office for the 2010-2011 school year. The following forms must be completed prior to participation in any sport activity, which includes Field Hockey Summer Camp:

Newport Harbor High School Athletics Clearance Packet

Next Monday – Dr. Tischler

Next Monday (June 14), the Athletic Department has arranged for physicals to be done by Dr. Tischler and his colleagues at Newport Orthopedic Institute. A yearly physical is a mandatory part of the athletic clearance packet that you must turn in on the first day of Summer Camp. No appointment is necessary, just bring your completed physical forms from the Athletics Clearance Packet and payment of $25 per student to Newport Orthopedic Institute, 22 Corporate Plaza Drive, Ste. 150, Newport Beach, at 5:30 p.m (please do not show up before 5:00 p.m.).

*You may also choose to take the paperwork to a personal physician for the physical, but this must be completed by the first day of Summer Camp.

Open House at NHHS

Newport Harbor held an Open House and Freshman Information Night last night where extra-curricular programs and clubs had information booths set up for promotion and to answer questions. We had a great time meeting all of the new students (and their families) that may be joining us at summer camp!
