Game Recap

Newport Harbor 4, Glendora 0
Newport Harbor Girls Varsity Field Hockey continued its winning ways Tuesday, defeating the previously unbeaten Glendora Tartans 4-0 at home.  The Sailors’ strong defense held Glendora to one shot on goal while the Sailors managed eight shots of their own. Stephanie Storch had two goals for the Sailors, including one on a free stroke (penalty shot), and Megan Case scored off an assist from Mary Yeager to finish the first half scoring.  Allie Pantoskey scored midway through the second half redirecting a ball that rebounded off the Tartan goalie.
The Sailors (5-0) begin league action next Tuesday at home against Huntington Beach at 3:15 p.m. at Harper School.  Huntington Beach is the defending Sunset League champion, but has lost to Newport Harbor in the Tournament of Champions finals each of the last two years.
Newport Harbor’s Junior Varsity team came out with another win as well against the Tartans with a 1-0 victory. Junior Annie Pyle scored with an assist from Kirsten Rohan.

Car Wash

The Car Wash Fundraiser on Saturday was an enormous success. Many customers called it ‘the most successful car wash they’d ever seen’! The girls did an amazing job working together to organize, rinse, clean, rinse again, and dry a very large number of cars.

A big thank you to John & Jill Frei for all of their help with the supplies and to St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church for letting us use their parking lot. Also, thanks to Kathy Liotta, Nancy Rohan, Nancy Long, and Denise Chandler for their help throughout the day with set up, selling tickets & baked goods, organization, and clean up. Lastly, thanks to Frosh/Soph dad, Gordon Jones, for jumping in to help the girls dry when he saw the long line of cars continue to grow. We were successful thanks to all of these volunteers and all of our generous customers! Thank you!!

Warriors of the Game

Our opponent on Thursday, Chaminade High School, has a tradition of giving a ‘warrior of the game’ to a member of the opposing team. The team votes on a player and then awards her with a plastic army man. Chaminade chose Varsity’s #3 Beth Barnard and JV’s #20 Jill Messersmith. Good work girls!
