TOC: Round 1

Newport Harbor Varsity Field Hockey traveled to Glendora High School for the first round of the Tournament of Champions. Newport scored two goals in the first half, one by junior Haley Martinez and another by sophomore Mollie Crook. Senior goalkeeper Erika Nilsson had four saves hold the shutout for a 2-0 win over the Tartans. Newport travels to Edison High School tomorrow for the semi-final game at 3:15 p.m. Go Newport!

The third place game (4:00 p.m.) and the finals (6:00 p.m.) will be played at Huntington Beach High School on Thursday.

OC JV Invitational: Champions & 4th

Congratulations to the OC JV Field Hockey Tournament 1st and 4th Place Teams!

Newport Harbor JV Field Hockey were champions in the tournament after beating Westminster 2-0, Edison in strokes, and beating Huntington Beach in the finals. Congratulations to Katie Hendrix and McKenzie Porteous for their All Tournament Team honors.

Newport Harbor Frosh/Soph Field Hockey ended the tournament in fourth place after beating Fountain Valley 3-0, defeating Bonita 1-0 in penalty strokes, losing 0-1 to Huntington Beach in a well played game, a 1-0 victory over Glendora, and a tough loss in stroke competition against Edison. Great job Goalkeeper Rachel Del Valle only let one goal in during regular game play and congratulations to Riley Warmington on her All Tournament Team honors.

Newport Harbor Frosh/Soph Field Hockey traveled to Harvard Westlake on Thursday. During the first half Newport had the ball for the majority of the time, but ended the half 0-0. With 2 minutes left to play Sophia Mendoza directed the ball into the back of the net, ending the game with a 1-0 win. Go Newport!

OC Invitational Finalists

Newport Harbor Varsity Field Hockey participated in the OC Varsity Invitational at Marina High School. The Sailors won their first game against Louiseville 6-0. The semi-final game was a 3-0 victory over Bonita. The final game ended in a 0-0 tie after 8 saves by freshman goalkeeper Sarah Sheldon and countless shots on goal. The Sailors and Chargers remained tied after the first round in penalty strokes, and then lost in the third sudden victory stroke. Congratulations on a Second Place finish! Go Newport!

Newport Harbor Frosh/Soph Field Hockey traveled to Bonita on Thursday and ended will a 5-0 win! Paige Clayton dribbled from the 25 yard line into the cage to score the first goal. The second goal was a pass from midfielder Tristen Warmington to Amelia Bruscia who put the ball in for the second goal. Sam Kerrigan and Warmington also put a goal in along with Sophia Mendoza. Coach Taylor noted amazing passes and defending from defensive stopper Rylee Warmington along with great dribbling from Olivia Kalatschan and Sophie Blanda Go Newport!

Newport Harbor Varsity Field Hockey (11-2-1, 2-1 in league) fell to Huntington Beach yesterday with a score of 0-3. The Sailors dominated the first half but had a goal scored against them by a breakaway. The Oilers then scored another two goals in the second half to secure the win.

Newport Harbor Junior Varsity Field Hockey came up with a 1-0 win against Huntington Beach. Mckenzie Porteous scored the lone goal with an assist from Emily Lukosky. Goalkeeper Sarah Sheldon had seven saves. GO Newport!
