Newport Harbor Varsity Field Hockey lost a hard fought defensive battle against Huntington Beach 2-0. The teams efforts were lead by seniors Sophie Evans, Courtney McIntosh, Nicole Zielinski, and Emmy Mitchell along with juniors Jill Messersmith and Jane Layton. Harbor has another home game Tuesday, October 4th against Marina at Davidson Field at 3:15 p.m.

Newport Harbor Junior Varsity Field Hockey ended their second league game against Huntington Beach in a scoreless tie.

Newport Harbor Varsity Field Hockey (7-2-2) hosted the first league game against Fountain Valley on Tuesday. The Sailors defeated Fountain Valley 6-3. Sophie Evans, Allie Pantoskey and Taury Hlinka each had two goals with a couple of assists by Courtney McIntosh and Jill Messersmith. Newport Harbor has their second league game Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. at Davidson Field against Huntington Beach. Please come out and cheer them on.

Newport Harbor JV Field Hockey’s league opener ended in 0-0 tie against Fountain Valley. They play their second league game on Wednesday against Huntington Beach at 4:45 p.m. on Davidson Field.

Newport Harbor Frosh/Soph Field Hockey traveled to Glendora High School. Kayla Bernard scored the only goal in the 1-1 tie game.

Newport Harbor 8, Louisville 0

NEWPORT BEACH — Sydney Dexter and Allie Pantoskey scored two goals each to help the Sailors win the nonleague game against the team from Woodland Hills Tuesday at Davidson Field.

Courtney McIntosh, Sophie Evans, Kelly Kindgren and Emily Conant scored a goal each for Newport Harbor (6-2-2). The Sailors will face Fountain Valley in their Sunset League opener Tuesday at 3:15 p.m. at Davidson Field.

Newport Harbor Frosh Soph hosted Harvard Westlake at Davidson Field and ended the game with a 1-0 win. Daniela Vazquez scored the only goal. Go Newport!

Newport Harbor Field Hockey Wins San Diego Tournament

Newport Harbor Varsity Field Hockey traveled to Chula Vista on Saturday to play in the second round of the Otay Ranch Field Hockey Tournament.

Newport Harbor defeated Canyon Crest 2-1 in the quarter-final game. Both goals were scored by junior Jill Messersmith, with an assist by junior Taury Hlinka. Newport then beat Bonita Vista 2-0 in the semi-final game. Goals were scored by senior Annie Pyle and junior Taury Hlinka. Newport then won the championship game 1-0 against Valley Center. Senior captain Allie Pantoskey scored the only goal.

Senior goalkeeper Andie Ward had 9 saves throughout the three games. Emily Mitchell, Madison Wooters, Sophie Evans, and Courtney McIntosh were key players throughout the day.

Newport hosts Louisiville in their last non-league game on Tuesday at 3:15 on Davidson Field.

GLENDORA — Senior goalie Andie Ward made 10 saves for the Sailors in the nonleague road match Thursday. Stopper Courtney McIntosh and sweeper Kellie Conant were singled out for strong defensive play by Coach Amanda Boyer. The Sailors (1-1-2) return to action Saturday in the quarterfinals of the Otay Ranch Tournament in Chula Vista.

Newport Harbor Junior Varsity also ended in a 0-0 tie against Glendora on Thursday.

Newport Harbor Frosh/Soph traveled to Edison High School where sophomore captain Riley Flannagan scored the only goal in a 2-1 loss on Thursday. Coach Liz Tennyson said that the team “played hard, I’m very proud of them”.

It was a busy Saturday for Newport Harbor Field Hockey!

Newport Harbor Varsity played in the Otay Ranch Field Hockey Tournament in Chula Vista, CA. Their first game against Canyon Crest ended in a 0-0 tie. In their second game they faced San Pasqual and lost 0-1. Newport’s last game of the day, the third on turf, they beat Otay Ranch 4-0 with three goals by senior captain Allie Pantoskey and another by junior Taury Hlinka. The team placed second in their pool and will travel to Chula Vista on Saturday for the quarterfinals. Thank you to all of the parents who drove down to Chula Vista support the team (especially those at 5:00 am)!

Newport Harbor JV & F/S played in the Allied Sports Day at Westminster High School. After a morning in the gymnasium to avoid the lightning storm, both teams had a great day of play. Both teams played four, twenty-five minute games, and had some good competition.

Newport Harbor Varsity Field Hockey had a tough, hot day at Harvard Westlake on Thursday. The first non-league game of the season ended in a 1-4 loss. “It was a game that the team can learn from,” said Head Coach Amanda Boyer, “and they were able to gain more experience in playing on turf.” Senior goalkeeper Andie Ward had nine saves in the goal, while senior defenders Nicole Zielinski and Kellie Conant had very strong games. Newport’s only goal was scored by senior midfielder Emily Mitchell. The Newport Harbor Junior Varsity team battled it out with Harvard Westlake and ended in a 0-0 tie. Sophomore goalkeeper Cailynn Smethurst and junior captain Maryn Call were key players for the defense. The Sailors are on the road again on Tuesday to face Chaminade.
