Top 15: Sheldon

On Wednesday evening, Newport Harbor Field Hockey senior Sarah Sheldon was honored as one of the top student athletes from Newport Harbor, Corona del Mar, and Sage, for athletic and academic achievements, as well as community involvement, at the 57th Annual Athletic Awards Dinner. Special guest speaker, Tom Telesco, general manager of the Los Angeles Chargers, delivered a speech about the importance of academics and commitment.

Thank you to the Newport Beach Chamber of Commerce for hosting such a special event to recognize the student-athletes.

Congratulations to Sarah for this exciting honor!

Athletic Clearance Physicals

Every student athlete at NHHS must have a completed clearance packet on file each year to participate in any high school athletic practice or sport.

On Thursday, June 7 at 5:30 – 7:30 p.m., the Athletic Department will be conducting physicals with registered medical doctors and nurses at Newport Orthopedic Institute (21 Corporate Plaza Drive, Newport Beach) for a voluntary contribution of $35. All proceeds will go to NHHS Athletics. Click here for more information and the clearance packet for the Newport Orthopedic Physical Day.

*You may also choose to take the paperwork to a personal physician for the physical, but this must be completed by the first day of tryouts.  Click here for the NHHS Athletics Clearance Packet.

Spring Training and Stanford Summer Camp

Spring Training
Spring Sports have come to an end so Spring Training officially begins on Monday. The student athletes are expected to be at practices and should not schedule appointments or work on homework during Spring Training. Spring Training is on Mondays and Thursdays, 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. at Davidson Stadium.

Stanford University Overnight Field Hockey Camp
NHFH Boosters is interested in taking a group of girls to the Stanford Field Hockey Overnight Camp, July 18 – 21.

The Stanford Field Hockey Camp will focus on basic and advanced skills, position play, field hockey fundamentals and team strategy. Located on the beautiful Stanford campus in Palo Alto California, this high tempo skills camp provides technical teaching and skill development, in a fun yet competitive environment. Participants will experience a combination of skill development and game play situations in an intensive format with multiple repetitions. Participants stay in the dorms and eat meals together on campus at Stanford University.

The Newport Harbor Field Hockey Boosters is working out a way to help lower the cost of the camp; the amount discounted will depend on how high the interest level is. If you are interested and able to commit to that time frame, please email newportharborfieldhockey@gmail.com by Tuesday, May 15. We will send out an email on Wednesday with instructions for registration. For more information on the camp, click here.
